Why work with a Certified GAPS Practitioner?

GAPS Practioners were trained by Dr. Campbell-McBride to help people use the GAPS Diet to heal themselves.  The Diet itself is not hard to understand but overcoming issues can be difficult without help from a GAPS Practitioner.

I am going to split this into two parts:

Will the GAPS Diet help me and/or my family?

A great way to find out if the GAPS Diet is right for you is to read the gaps.me and the FAQs.

If you have issues with:

allergies/sensitivities

autoimmune diseases

behavioral or learning

blood sugar-hypoglycemia, diabete 1&2, metabolic

digestion-pain, bloating, gas, reflux, diarrhea, constipation, IBS

Endocrine-thyroid, adrenal, pineal, PMS, Menopausal, sexual dysfunction

mood-anxiety, depression, OCD,bipolar, schizophrenia

pain-joint, muscle, arthritis, tendonitis, neuropathy

skin issues-rashes, eczema, keratosis pilaris, Psoriasis

......and most people have elements of manyl of these.

The GAPS Diet is an incredibly nutrient dense, natural, health giving diet on it's own and a helpful addition to any other therapy.

I have started the GAPS DIet and I am confused, "stuck," not feeling better, getting worse, or I need support.  How can a GAPS Practitioner help me?

1.  You have not fixed your digestion.  GAPS Practtioners can help you get your digestion so you can get the nutrients from your food.  If you are on the GAPS Diet and you are still constipated(not digesting fat), have diarrhea(too much fiber), have gas, reflux, or have "gut" pain(not enough stomach acid, bile(for fat digestion), yeast overgrowth in stomach), your digestion is not working properly.

2.  You are taking too many supplements or taking the wrong ones. GAPS Practitioners can help you figure out if you need any supplements and if you do, help lead you to the right ones.  You can't out supplement poor digestion or poor food or inadequate food choices.  Supplements can be expensive and actually make your body have to work harder.

3.  A GAPS Practiioner can make sure you are on the right GAPS Diet, either Full or Intro.  Many people start out on the wrong diet and exasperate their issues.

4.  A GAPS Practitioner can help tailor the diet for YOU.  Please re-read the chapter in the GAPS book, "One man's meat is another man's poison."  In my experience, a truer statement could not be made.  For example, dairy, nuts, eggs, and fruit/honey have caused a lot of issues for many clients.  The diet is a guide with set principles BUT there definitely can be some tweaking for YOU.  If you cannot eat eggs, that does not mean you have to stay on stage 2 of the intro diet forever.

5.  GAPS Practitioners all have different styles and backgrounds BUT we all were trained by Dr. Campbell-McBride.  We have a Practtioners forum to help each other with client issues and Dr Campbell-McBride also regularily gives advice.

6.  Many people read and believe things about the GAPS Diet that are simply not true.  These are usually coming from sources that are not from Certified GAPS Practitioners.  There are many crazy ideas on the internet so working with a Certified GAPS Practitioner will set you on the right path.  Many people take their ideas about nutrition(as Sally Fallon calls it, "Diet Dictorates") which are simply not true and meld them with the GAPS Diet and end up worse then when they started.  The GAPS Protocol is a fantastic healing tool but with the correct, trained, guidance.
